Who we are
Sandyford is hosted by the Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership. It is the name of the specialised sexual health services for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, including both clinical and health improvement elements.

Sandyford works to the definition of sexual health in its widest sense as defined by the World Health Organisation. We have a vision to achieve the best sexual health and well being for the population of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

We aim to do this through 3 key objectives:

  • To work in partnership to address inequalities in sexual health
  • To maximise the impact of sexual health services
  • To focus specialist sexual health services on those who most need them by offering a tiered model of service and intervention provision approach

What we do

Sandyford provides an integrated sexual, reproductive and emotional health service across the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde area from our main base at Sandyford Central with local clinics within Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire, West Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde and Renfrewshire.

The specialised Sexual Health, Health Improvement team is also part of the Sandyford family. Health improvement is defined as the area of public health practice concerned with improving the health and wellbeing of populations and reducing inequalities by using health promotion, prevention and community development approaches to influence the lifestyle and socio-economic, physical and cultural environment of populations, communities and individuals.

In Scotland the discipline of health improvement has a leadership role for addressing inequalities in population health whether at structural level, community or group level or at individual level.

A little bit of history and ethos

Sandyford Services have evolved from their inception in 2000 as a convergence of Family Planning and Reproductive Health Services, Genitourinary Medicine and the Centre for Women’s Health into a fully integrated specialised sexual health service across the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board area. From its development, Sandyford has maintained a strong emphasis on delivering non-judgemental sexual, reproductive and emotional health services that respect people’s individual experiences and that understands them within a social context. Sandyford continues to be seen as an exemplar in how it plans and delivers services across the population.
