This is a comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment and referral service for people who are experiencing problems of sexual functioning.
Types of Problems Presenting
The Sexual Problems service will see any client with a relevant problem. The most commonly seen conditions are:
Sexual Problems service staff are a multidisciplinary group and have training in medicine and in sexual problems specifically. The doctors are trained by the Institute of Psychosexual Medicine or other professional organisations. There are both male and female members of staff so we can accommodate personal preferences.
Both psychodynamic and behavioural methods are used. These are talking therapies but a clinical examination will usually be performed to exclude any physical causes for the sexual problem. Behavioural treatments can involve homework where you may be expected to follow specific exercises or keep a diary. Medication may also be used if appropriate and your therapist will discuss with you which treatment option might suit you best.
The waiting time to be seen can be 3 - 6 months although we are trying to reduce this. As a result of this demand, if you are unable to attend your appointment we would be most grateful if you contact us as soon as possible, so that the appointment can be allocated to someone else.
You can phone for an appointment on 0141 211 8130 or any health service professional can refer you. The line is open Mondays to Fridays from 8.30am - 4.15pm, except public holidays. Our phone lines are busiest in the morning. If you can’t get through when you first call, then please try again later.
There are a number of self help sources available which may be of help to you while you wait for your appointment. We recommend the following:
