Deciding to keep the baby may mean a lot of hard work and some
big changes in your life. But, this doesn't mean that you won't be
able to look after a baby. Take time to think about how a baby will
affect your life. Think about how you will manage money-wise and
whether you are ready for the changes a baby will bring.
You might have to take time out of school/college or work to
look after the baby. Some colleges/workplaces provide crèche
facilities and often parents/family members or partners are able to
help with childcare, allowing you to return to school/work/college
when the baby is a bit older.
If you do decide to have the baby, the most important thing is
to contact your doctor or midwife to arrange your antenatal care
(care during your pregnancy) as soon as possible. Antenatal care is
important as it helps monitor your own health during the pregnancy,
as well as the health and growth of your baby.
There are agencies that can often offer you help and
support.
Speak to your hospital social worker (your midwife can arrange
this), your midwife or GP about how and where to access support
during your pregnancy and after.
