Rape & Sexual Assault

In a sexual relationship you have the right to:

  • Choose when to have sex
  • Say no to sex
  • Ask for want you want
  • Say what you don't want

If you have sexual contact with someone without their consent you are committing a crime.

It is illegal to have sex with someone if they are under the age of 16.

Some people who have been raped blame themselves for what has happened to them, but it is never the fault of the person who has been raped. If you have been raped or sexually assaulted by someone you know or a stranger.

  • It's a good idea to go to the police to make a report. You should do this as soon as possible.
  • Alternatively, you can go to a centre in Glasgow called Archway. They give confidential sensitive support and counselling for men and women aged 13 and up who have been raped or sexually assaulted within the past 7 days. A female doctor will offer to examine you, take forensic evidence and check you for Sexually Transmitted Infections. Police will only be informed if you agree (if you are under 16 there are some exceptions to this).   T: 0141 211 8175.
  • If you want some advice contact The Place which is part of Sandyford. It's a young people friendly sexual health service. Phone: 0141 211 8130 for more.
