Alcohol Brief Interventions and Screening for Young people At Sandyford Central

The Place

When attending The Place clinic  each young person will be handed an alcohol screening tool. This is completed in reception area while waiting to be seen at the clinic. If help is required completing the screening tool a member of staff or clinician will be available to assist.  Data collected from the screening is confidential to the clinic. Completion of the tool is voluntary

Alcohol Screening is an effective preventative intervention aimed at young people. Encouraging self monitoring through screening increases awareness of consumption and will identify risky or harmful drinking before it becomes problematic. Screening is encouraged at each visit to the clinic.

Brief Intervention

This is a supportive conversation that aims to raise awareness motivate and encourage a reduction in drinking.  The intervention is  relaxed and helpful, not confrontational or judgmental. Length of time may vary, lasting 5 to 40mins.

Young people attending the clinic who are concerned about their drinking  can request an alcohol brief intervention. This will be delivered by the clinic alcohol worker or by a trained member of staff.
