| All staff at The Place have been specially selected for their ability to relate to young people and treat them with respect. This means you can expect everyone to be friendly, non judgmental, not make assumptions about you, listen to you and respect your confidentiality. | ||||
| Youth Workers The first people you'll meet will probably be one of the Youth Workers. The youth workers are there to make you feel welcome and put you at ease. They are also there to talk over anything you might want to talk about such as relationships, what to expect when you see the nurse or doctor, or explain about the Place and what happens there. Receptionist We now have a specially selected receptionist for The Place who will ask you to register with the Place and invite you to fill out a tick sheet so we can see why you are here without anybody else in The Place finding out The doctor is there to talk over anything you want to talk about. In particular they will be able to prescribe contraception or emergency contraception or do pregnancy tests. For some forms of contraception you will need to see the doctor. The doctor will also provide testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections. The nurse is there to talk over anything you might want to talk about. The nurse will be able to do pregnancy tests and prescribe some kinds of contraception as well as advise on condom use. The nurse may be able to offer testing for STIs. If you Are you worried about anything and think it Would help to talk it through with someone outside of family and friends, the Counsellor in the Place, may be able to help. She will take you to a quiet room to talk tell you what to do. She will listen to you she won't judge you she will help you to work things she won't tell anyone else* *She would only have to tell someone else if you were in real danger, or if you were being abused. But she wouldn't do anything without talking to you first and discussing the reason. And she would still support you afterwards. The Counsellor is available at The Place every Tuesday from 4.00 - 6.00pm and every Saturday from 1.00 to 3.30 pm. You may need to make an appointment. |
