It is really important for you to take action immediately to find out what the situation is. The sooner you know for sure, the more you will be able to take control of the situation and make the right choices for you. First of all, if you have had unprotected penetrative vaginal sex or your method of contraception has failed in the last 24 hours to five days, you can get emergency contraception. This is one of two methods you can use to prevent getting pregnant. The sooner you take action the more effective this method will be.

If you are beyond five days you will not be able to take emergency contraception. This means there is a possibility that you might be pregnant. This can be really difficult and confusing thing to face up to but you don't have to go through it alone.
At the Place you will be able to come and speak with one of the staff and talk over what some of your options are. Probably the first thing to do is get a pregnancy test. You can buy these at chemists but they can be quite expensive, however you can get one free at the Place, and get all the support and back up you need whatever the result. Whatever your situation, please come and see us as soon as you can.
If your test is negative:
It might be an idea to talk over a method of contraception or protection that suits you best. We will also be happy to talk over anything you might want to discuss about your relationship.
If your test is positive:
This can be difficult to deal with but again, there is a lot of support and options open to you. The important thing is not to ignore it and hope it goes away. You need to take action immediately and we can help you talk through your choices and decisions.
