Masturbation

Masturbation is the term used to describe genital self-stimulation for sexual pleasure.

Masturbation is natural and pleasurable.  General medical advice is that masturbation is normal in people of all genders and that it causes no significant medical problems.

For men, masturbation exercises can be used for premature ejaculation problems to learn to control the ejaculatory response.  In women masturbation can help with achieving orgasm and may be combined with sexual intercourse.

Mutual masturbation is when sexual partners stimulate each other’s genitals with their hands instead of or as part of sexual intercourse.  It can be used as a form of  safer sex.

For some people masturbation can lead to feelings of guilt or shame, particularly if there are religious or cultural taboos that tell people it is inappropriate or wrong.  If you have difficult feelings about mastrubation or any form of sexual pleasure which you want to talk over, you can get help at Sandyford.
