As part of the wide ranging services for sexual and reproductive health at the Sandyford Initiative, the Gender Service for transsexuals is the most extensive in Scotland , maintaining links with the other areas of service provision in Scotland .
There is a core clinical service, which offers ongoing assessment, hormonal prescribing and referral to other relevant agencies such as surgery, endocrinology and speech therapy. The service operates according to the internationally agreed standards of care of the Harry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria Association. It is an NHS service. It is a consultant led, with a nurse specialist and counselor, with input from Specialist Registrars in Psychiatry.
There is also a thriving facilitated self help group which operates from Sandyford.Patients can self refer or be referred by their GP or hospital doctor.
All visits are by appointment only.
For regular service users there is a monthly clinic on the first Tuesday of each month from 9.00am to 11.00am
