Sandyford Expertise:
The Sandyford Initiative brings together a wide range of interests and approaches and staff provide expert and specialist advice to many external agencies and organisations. This has included giving evidence and supporting the activities of Parliamentary commitments and MPs/MSPs on issues such as women’s health and transgender. Sandyford staff are actively involved in the development of national sexual health strategy including the reference group for the Scottish Sexual Health Strategy. Experiences gained from implementing the Sandyford Initiative have been incorporated into a HEBS commissioned report on services for young people in Scotland.
Sandyford staff also contribute to or lead many UK professional societies including the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH www.bashh.org) and the Faculty of Family Planning and Reproductive Health Care (FFPRHC www.ffprhc.org.uk) as well as bodies for nursing, sexual health advisers and others.
Sandyford expertise is also provided to a range of statutory and non-statutory organisations including Health Boards, Glasgow City Council and the media. A six part BBC television series called ‘Sex, Warts and All’ filmed at the Sandyford, helped increase public awareness of what happens in sexual health services. Finally, there is an ongoing programme of internal and external evaluation which is being used to inform and develop services both in Glasgow and more widely.
