To be pro-active in informing policy development in other agencies to promote reproductive health, sexual health and emotional health, gender- sensitive health care and the social model of health.

Sandyford Training and Education:

The Sandyford provides training for health professionals in Glasgow, in Scotland and elsewhere in the UK. Sandyford staff support training in appraisal and communication skills, reproductive health, sexual health and HIV medicine, at the University of Glasgow, Glasgow Caledonian University, University of Strathclyde and University of Paisley. Sandyford staff also contribute to the national ‘HIV masterclass’ held annually at the University of Warwick. Training also takes place on specialist areas such as counselling, working with eating disorders and access to health information for staff within statutory and voluntary organisations.

Sandyford provides specialist professional postgraduate medical training in Genitourinary Medicine and Family Planning and Reproductive Healthcare. This training is externally accredited and leads to a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training. Professional training is also delivered for nurses, health advisers, pharmacy, laboratory and other staff.

Sandyford is committed to training staff across a wide range of disciplines in partner organisations, including Primary Care, through training courses including the Diploma of the Faculty of Family Planning (DFFP), the Sexually Transmitted Infection Foundation (STIF) course, and the psychosexual medicine diploma course. In-house training has been provided to promote the social model of care, and Sandyford staff training sessions that cover all aspects of the work take place on a weekly basis and are open to local colleagues.

Sandyford works closely with Health Promotion and other colleagues to provide internal and external training to individuals and organisations and has a training department which co-ordinates training requests for all aspects of sexual, reproductive, emotional and women’s health.
