Principle Six~
To be pro-active in informing policy development in other agencies to promote reproductive health, sexual health and emotional health, gender- sensitive health care and the social model of health.

Sandyford's Strategic Links:

Promoting the work and models of the Sandyford Initiative into other settings is extremely important and staff are involved in strategic and developmental work across all disciplines and at local, national and international levels. The following examples indicate the scope of this work.

Influencing Scottish Executive policy development on sexual health through expert advice and evidence.

Supporting the planned integration of reproductive and sexual health services through information, visits and training.

Within the last year, this has included formal visitors from South Africa (the Health Portfolio committee of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature), Eastern Europe, England, Wales and elsewhere in Scotland. Support has also been provided by Sandyford staff in person or by other means for sexual health strategic planning events outside Glasgow, including an event in Liverpool where the new Primary Care Trust were planning to converge services.

Comments:

“Services like this will considerably improve level of care, treatment, support and advice offered to adults and young people in this vital area”.

Susan Deacon, then Health Minister, speaking at the Sandyford launch in 2000.

“We spent a very interesting afternoon and gained a valuable insight into how services have been brought together on one site. This should prove useful in planning for the proposed developments in Fife”.

“Just a short note to express our gratitude to all who took time out of their days to make us feel so welcome and inspired”. (Visitors from Coventry)

“I found the day very interesting and informative and it has given me lots of idea to bring back to Hull. The development of the service has obviously been a great achievement and it is a credit to you"
