Sandyford Research:
The Sandyford Initiative at any one time is undertaking a wide range of research projects. Current activity includes epidemiology, psychosocial projects, qualitative studies, Health Service-based research, randomised control trials and other controlled trials. The Initiative has many skills in-house, and active partnerships with Scottish Centre for Infection & Environmental Health (SCIEH), the University of Glasgow, Glasgow Caledonian University and the University of Paisley which allow many different approaches to be utilised.Sandyford Initiative research is supported by the Scottish Executive, various charities and the commercial sector. Current research activity includes:
A randomised trial to evaluate users views and diagnoses made in women who attend with a vaginal discharge. This study allocates women to the current care pathways in Genitourinary Medicine and Family Planning and compares the outcome with a hybrid gold standard of care.
A pilot survey on the knowledge and attitudes of young women towards Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and a potential vaccine. Targeting those under the age of 21, the Sandyford is gauging perceptions on awareness of HPV compared to other sexually transmitted infections and the impact of HPV on cervical cancer uptake.
The health and lifestyles research project is studying information on the health, perceived health, social circumstances and lifestyles of family planning clients attending our 28 community clinics, tailor the service to needs of each individual clinic.
