Providing services for lesbians:
Many lesbians access Sandyford services, including the specialist service raised within the Initiative - Sappho@Sandyford - a clinical and counselling service developed specifically for lesbians that has been running since 1996. Women can self refer to the service which provides a monthly clinical services and fortnightly counselling. The service also provides groups and referrals for women, with an increasing emphasis on fertility and parenting issues. Sappho is supported by an Advisory Group that involves representatives from lesbian voluntary organisations.
In 2001 Phace West, Stonewall Scotland, Outright Scotland and the Equality Network presented the Sappho service with the Pride Award for Health for “an outstanding contribution to services for health within a diverse Scottish lesbian and gay community."
