Principle Four ~
To recognise and actively address the needs of different population groups.

Providing services for black and ethnic minority users:

People from black and ethnic minority communities access all services provided by Sandyford within the main site and the wide range of community-based settings. Sandyford aims to make its services as accessible as possible through translated signage and information materials, and book stock and health promotions literature in community languages. Sandyford accesses language interpreters for service users when required and aims to ensure that all services are anti-discriminatory through staff training and awareness raising. The Sandyford is part of Greater Glasgow Primary Care NHS Trust which is an equal opportunities employer. Staff at Sandyford are drawn from a range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

The Sandyford Multicultural Inclusion Group oversees this area and is supporting the planned development of a “host helper” system in Sandyford reception, that will provide volunteering opportunities for people from black and ethnic minority communities who will provide peer support as required to Sandyford users.

Community-based services are also provided in the Health Centre in Govanhill, an area in Glasgow’s South Side with a high black and ethnic minority population.

“I was tremendously encouraged by the optimism and sense of co-operation that continues to grow at the Sandyford”.
