Principle Three ~
To have ongoing consultations with current and potential service users to ensure the planning and delivery of equitable and accessible service.

Supporting external evaluations and research into the impact and success of Sandyford service:

Sandyford, as a new innovative service, is a popular subject for evaluations by both the service funders as well as external researchers. These pieces of work link to the Sandyford Evaluation Group and have the full co-operation of staff and services users. In the last two years evaluations have been undertaken by:
  • Glasgow University on the success of the Sandyford Integration for staff by the Health Education Board for Scotland (HEBS).

  • Glasgow Caledonian University for the European Society Of Contraception on the integration of reproduction and sexual health services.

  • NHS Greater Glasgow on the counselling services within the Initiative.

  • All evaluation reports and findings are kept in an archive available to staff and users

Extract Comments:

“The Sandyford Initiative is not only an exciting innovation for Glasgow, but as an exercise in collaborative working and an attempt to reorient clinical services to incorporate a social perspective, it is a potential model for the reorientation of health services demanded by the White Papers.” (HEBS Values Project - Final Report - July 2000)

Results & Conclusions: “The integration of the three services led to a reduction in stigma associated with attending sexual health services. Despite some staff concerns the number of men attending the services did not decrease. There was increased satisfaction with the new service, especially the quality of the facilities. There were increased numbers of referrals between clinical services in the Sandyford Initiative. Sexual, reproductive and women’s services can be integrated to provide improved facilities for clients.”

(Glasgow Caledonian University for the European Society Of Contraception - April 2002)
