To embody a social model of health that accounts for all the health determinants that can affect individuals and communities (communities of interest and geographical communities) in the delivery of care and service.
Examples:
The Sandyford Créche provides a safe and friendly environment for children whose parents or carers use any of the services and is open all week. The staffed crèche is registered as a day-care facility with Glasgow City Council and is fully stocked with toys and games, arts and crafts. Parents or carers receive a pager when leaving their children, so they can be contacted at any time, whilst maintaining their confidentiality.
Sandyford recently played a key role in devising and implementing a new system for condom distribution throughout the city. This new system, piloted in Sandyford, allows members of the public to register as a condom user and to receive education and information about effective condom use, as well as an ongoing supply of condoms.
Sandyford ensures that health is promoted through informative displays and materials, health promotion activities and events, relaxing and friendly waiting areas, and services such as anti-smoking groups for clients. Many of these activities link to national as well as local programmes.
Recent Sandyford events have included a Men’s Health Promotion evening (including a health MOT, reiki and massage), the promotion of National Condom Week, the development of Sandyford health promotion material to advertise World Aids Day and displays and information about breast screening.
