The Microbiology laboratory is staffed by a full time Senior Biomedical Scientist and it provides a point of care microbiology service to Sandyford’s clients. The laboratory enables clients to receive a preliminary microscope result while they wait at the clinic. The laboratory is able to screen specimens for sexually and non-sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhoea, non-specific urethritis, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis and candida. A specialised Darkground microscopy service is available to aid the diagnoses of syphilis. All Biomedical Scientists are registered with the Health Professions Council (www.hpc-uk.org)
