New advice was issued in February 2011 to help primary care staff make the best use of laboratory tests when investigating vaginal discharge. Much vaginal discharge can be managed without sending cultures and using clinical judgement and pH testing instead. The guidance also addresses when to test for genital Chlamydia infection.

New information materials are designed to assist staff in the management of sexual exposure to HIV and are based on the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde policy for the management of occupational and non-occupational exposure to bloodborne viruses.

The Microbiology laboratory is staffed by a full time Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist and it provides a point of care microbiology service to Sandyford's clients. Further information can be found here.
