Having good mental health is just as important as taking care of
physical health. Counselling is an important way of helping when
emotional difficulties and life circumstances are affecting the
ability to remain mentally healthy.
Counselling is an important aspect of the services provided at
Sandyford and compliments the range of other services in a fully
integrated way.
What is counselling?
Counselling offers a safe, confidential, reliable and judgement
free place to talk about worries and concerns. It can help to
clarify important decisions you might be facing. Emotional problems
can often have their roots in the past. Talking them over with a
therapist can help someone gain understanding and develop or
rediscover resources which will enable a real change in approaching
life and relationships.

What does counselling involve?
Counselling involves weekly or fortnightly appointments which
last for 50 minutes. The appointments are at a regular time and
with the same therapist. All the therapists working within
Sandyford are fully qualified and work from a variety of
theoretical approaches, these include person Centred and Cognitive
Behavioural Therapy. The number of counselling sessions is usually
discussed at the "assessment" stage.
