Although many patients self-refer to Sandyford services by
attending drop-in clinics or by making an appointment, Sandyford
also welcomes formal and informal referrals from colleagues working
in community and acute settings.
These are often directly to Sandyford specialist services which
include:
- Community Gynaecology
- Genitourinary Medicine (including Sexually Transmitted
infections)
- Psychosexual Medicine
- Counselling
Our preferred referral route is via the SCI Gateway. You can
find Sandyford under 'GGC - Sandyford Services'.
There are four tabs corresponding to the specialist services above.
We will reply by letter to all formal referrals we receive, unless
requested otherwise.
Please feel free to phone the dedicated Professional
Helpline (0141 211 8646) if you wish to discuss a case
or get further advice. The Helpline can forward you to speak to a
Consultant if needed.
Many colleagues prefer to just send patients along to one of the
drop-in clinics. However, individuals may get a more efficient
service if referred formally as they can be directed to the correct
clinician for their needs. Waiting time for a Consultant
appointment is rarely over a week.
- Acute sexual health emergencies. Examples
include HIV post-exposure prophylaxis or emergency contraception.
Please do ask the patient to attend their nearest drop-in service
as soon as possible. If there is important medical history or
medication we should know about, then please add a SCI Gateway
referral, then we have all the information to hand electronically.
Just note that you have already asked the person to
attend.
- Termination of Pregnancy. Referrals to our
TOPAR service should ideally be phoned in.
- HIV testing. We are happy to support you with
testing your own patients or you can book the patient to see our
sexual health advisers. If you are concerned that the patient may
have symptoms of HIV or is unwell, we would be keen to see them
quickly. Again, we would be happy to speak to you using the
Professional Helpline.
