New advice was issued in February 2011 to help primary care staff make the best use of laboratory tests when investigating vaginal discharge. Take a look at our section Support for Primary Care.  Much vaginal discharge can be managed without sending cultures and using clinical judgement and pH testing instead. The guidance also addresses when to test for genital Chlamydia infection.  This is detailed in the HVS and Chlamydia Resource Pack.
