For parents and carers
There are lots of good sources of information for parents and
carers. Here are a few suggestions:
- Talk 2 offers a range of support for parents of
children from pre-school age through to 16 in Glasgow,
including a training course and website to help parents feel
prepared to discuss growing up, puberty, sexual health and
relationships with children and young people. Resource packs
are available free of charge for Glasgow parents and can be ordered
via the website. Talk 2 has a collection of recommended books
(ranging from pre-5 titles to teenage) available to borrow from
every Glasgow City library. The full list can be viewed on the

- There is also
support for parents living in
Inverclyde, Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire, East

- BBC Bare Facts website is designed for
parents and uses a lot of very short video clips of parents, young
people and professionals giving their views about sex and

- Parentline Plus is a national charity that

for information help or support on a range of isssues that come up
for you as a parent.
- ParentLine Scotland help parents deal with

- Parents Enquiry Scotland provides help,
information and support for parents/carers of young people who are

- Women's support project are pleased to launch
a new free series of short information booklets on different

are for parents and workers for background reading and for

There are lots of good sources of information for children and
teenagers. You can check these out yourself, do it with your child,
or help your child access them for themselves.

- The Hormone Factory: This website is for
children aged 10 to 12 years old but it also has a section for
parents and teachers. It has information about physical changes
during puberty, including anatomical pictures and diagrams with
information. Also talks about safe sex and STIs, conception,
pregnancy and birth. The parents' pages offer advice on talking to

- Teenage Health Freak: Provides information for
teenagers on body changes, alcohol, drugs, bullying, moods, sex and

- Be Books: Online version of two short books

answers to commonly asked questions about sex as well as quizzes.
